Here are the top stories today in Huntsville:
- Dr. Eletra Gilchrist-Petty at UAH received the Black Caucus Rex Crawley Outstanding Service Award from the National Communication Association (NCA). Dr Gilchrist-Petty received the award at the conference in Seattle, Washington. Congrats Dr. G! (Patch)
- There is an update on the Athens City Schools student that was left at the Nashville Zoo. The school has commented to confirm the situation occurred and that they are reviewing their procedures. The family of the child has come forward to share that they were not on the trip and did have to drive to pick up their nine-year-old child. They are now working with an attorney on the matter. (WAAY)
- Starting Friday at 7 a.m., the intersection of Overhill Street and Claiborne Road will be temporarily closed. It will reopen Tuesday at 4 p.m. and there will be local access. (WAFF)
- A taxi driver led a police chase that went from Bob Wallace all the way to Tennessee. The driver refused to pull over when an HPD officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop. (WHNT)
- A team of students at UAH developed VioClean, which uses UV lights to disinfect fabrics in 20 minutes. This won the students $8000 and first place in the Boeing New Business Challenge. (WAAY)
