Regardless of the season, age group or gender a person belongs to, dandruff is a serious year-round problem that can have negative effects on their psyche and skin. Ayurveda has a treatment for every skincare issue, including dandruff.
Dandruff occurs when small pieces of dry skin flake off your scalp as a result of an overproduction of oil. As the skin’s layers are constantly replaced, cells are pushed outwards, where they die and flake off. This phenomenon is most likely to occur in other parts of your body as well. The skin becomes dry, coarse, itchy, and, in some extreme cases, red and bruised.
When dandruff progresses from mild to severe, it can cause skin cells to multiply faster than usual, resulting in heavier flakes, persistent itching, and more visible inflammation.
CAUSE OF DANDRUFF:
Dry skin: During the winter, the skin tends to dry out faster due to the lack of humidity in the air, which can also lead to dandruff.
Contact Dermatitis: Skin irritation caused by an allergen or irritant that results in an itchy and painful rash. In the case of dandruff, this reaction takes place on the scalp. This is usually caused by chemicals in a hair care product with which you come into contact.
Bad shampooing habits: Infrequent hair washing can aggravate dandruff by causing an excess build-up of oil, dust, grime, and dead skin cells.
Here are a few home remedies to get rid of dandruff naturally:

1. TEA TREE OIL AND VIRGIN COCONUT OIL:
In a mixing bowl, combine 5-10 drops of Tea Tree Oil with 5 tablespoons of Virgin Coconut Oil. Leave this nourishing mixture on your scalp and hair for 30 minutes.
Use a gentle hair cleanser to remove it. Coconut oil is known for its ability to effectively hydrate and moisturise the skin. It also helps fight fungi and its antimicrobial properties aid in the treatment of eczema.
2. APPLE CIDER VINEGAR:
Combine 2-3 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar with equal parts of water. Apply this mixture to your scalp and hair and leave it on for 3-5 minutes.
Wash your hair gently with a mild hair cleanser. Regular application of Apple Cider Vinegar balances the scalp’s natural pH level and aids in the reduction of dandruff.
3. NEEM LEAVES:
Take about 10-15 Neem leaves and soak them in boiling water overnight. You can then grind this into a fine paste and mix in 1-2 tablespoons of yogurt.
Apply this hair mask for 30 minutes and then rinse. The use of Neem Leaves on your hair on a regular basis will disinfect the dandruff-causing fungus on your hair and scalp.
4. BAKING SODA POWDER:
Apply 2 tablespoons of Baking Soda Powder directly to wet hair, gently massaging it in circular motions. Allow it to sit for 2-3 minutes before rinsing with a gentle hair cleanser.
Baking Soda Powder, when used as a mild exfoliant, removes excess dead cells from the scalp’s surface while reducing itchiness and inflammation, making it the go-to natural scalp treatment for dandruff.
5. ORGANIC AMLA POWDER AND TULSI LEAVES:
In a mixing bowl, combine equal parts of Organic Amla Powder and water to make a thin paste. Add a paste of 8-10 ground Tulsi leaves and water to this.
Apply this paste liberally to your scalp and leave it on for 30 minutes. Use a gentle hair cleanser to remove it.
Amla’s high vitamin C content and Tulsi’s antibacterial properties aid in the treatment of dandruff.
6. FENUGREEK SEEDS AND LEMON JUICE:
Soak 2 tablespoons of Fenugreek seeds in a bowl of water overnight. In the morning, use a blender to make a fine, thin paste out of the soaked Fenugreek seeds.
Add a tablespoon of lemon juice to this paste. Mix thoroughly and apply to your scalp and hair.
Leave it on for 30 minutes before removing it with a gentle hair cleanser of your choice. This mask will help restore the health of your scalp and prevent hair loss and dandruff.
