BHUBANESWAR: Residents of the Old Town area of the state capital, also known as Ekamra Kshetra, will soon get round-the-clock pure drinking water directly from taps. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday launched the ‘Sujal’ initiative besides several other projects worth Rs 103 crore for the Ekamra Kshetra.
In July, Puri became the first Indian city to get 24X7 pure drinking water. Addressing the people via the virtual mode, Naveen said development and public welfare are the key thrusts of his government. Naveen further said, “With the government having developed nearly 65 acres of land around the Lingaraj area in the city, the glory of the state capital will be enhanced further.”
Several projects worth Rs 800 crore are being taken up under the EKAMRA projects to transform the 11th century Lingaraj Temple into a world-class pilgrimage centre.
On the occasion, the CM also spoke about the recently launched smart health cards under the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana, which aim to provide hassle-free cashless treatment during hospitalisation to 96 lakh families. “This initiative has brought a revolution in the healthcare sector of the country,” Naveen said.
Among others, the chief minister also launched the beautification works taken up near the Dhauli peace pagoda monument, and several other small projects for the development of the old town areas.
