Carbon Collect, a start-up that removes carbon dioxide from the air and has the former taoiseach Enda Kenny as a director, has closed a funding round worth more than €10 million.
The company, which was founded in 2017 by the former BP executives Gary Dirks, Reyad Fezzani, Aleem Sheikh and Irishman Pól Ó’Móráin, has received the funding from a mix of institutional and other investors including a sustainable philanthropic charity called Porticus, and the Development Bank of Southern Africa.
Individual investors include Klaus Lackner, a pioneer in carbon capture technology. Enterprise Ireland has supported the company, while the US Department of Energy has awarded it €2.1 million.
