This week, Earthjustice and the League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (LCVEF) began a five-figure digital educational campaign to emphasize the importance of the courts for the environment in the District of Columbia and across 12 states: Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Wisconsin. The video ads are running as preroll and through connected TV.

WATCH: “Judges: Our Planet is in Their Court”

When corporations have a choice between more profits and less pollution,
Too many choose more profits.
Environmental laws are only as strong as the judges who enforce them
We need good judges
to hold polluters accountable.
The future of our planet is in their court.

“Our ability to combat climate change and hold polluting industries accountable is currently before the Supreme Court,” said Earthjustice Legislative Director for the Access to Justice Program Coby Dolan. “We’re at a critical moment for our environment, and we need good judges who will uphold our environmental laws and safeguard our access to the courts. Democracy at its core is about equal justice under law, and protecting our rights equally, including our right to clean air and clean water. We need judges that understand these rights and the important role the government plays in fighting climate change and protecting public health. If you care about the environment, you have to care about our courts and the judges who wield the power to interpret our laws.”

“The stakes for the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the planet have never been higher, but environmental laws are only as strong as the judges who uphold them,” said Doug Lindner, LCVEF advocacy director for Judiciary and Democracy. “Pollution can cause asthma, heart disease, or even cancer. No one is above the law, and when corporations break the law to put profits over people, we need judges willing to hold them accountable.”
