If blazing hot days have you parched, ACC water officials say a fresh glass of tap water is a safe and refreshing way to cool off. WUGA’s Isabela Weiss has more.
Athens-Clarke County water is safe to drink, according to the most recent ACC Water Test Results, published this month.
The report finds that out of the 90 substances monitored by the EPA like lead and chlorine, Athens water has trace levels of just nine. These substances are all at safe levels according to the ACC Government.
The report does find an elevated level of Total Trihalomethanes (TTHM), a disinfection byproduct, at the Barnett Shoals monitoring location. TTHM levels exceeded standards between the third quarter of 2021 (07/01/21 – 09/30/21) and the first quarter of 2022 (01/01/22 – 03/31/22), but has since been corrected by the Public Utilities Department (PUD). The PUD stated that the violation posed “no serious health risk” at the time.
