An urgent call to action to accelerate progress on ensuring safe drinking water for all

Overview

This report, presents the data on the links between water, health and development and the status of drinking water, with actionable recommendations to accelerate access to safe drinking water. The recommendations, structured around governance, financing, capacity development, data and information and innovation – the five accelerators of the UN-Water SDG 6 global acceleration framework – are illustrated by many examples of how countries have addressed the challenge of providing safe drinking water.

 As a service that provides immeasurable economic and health benefits, and essential gender quality outcomes, the need to dramatically increase government leadership and investment in safely managed drinking-water services is clear. It is hoped this report will catalyze action to extend sustainable drinking water services to all.
