Valero Refining-California will pay a $1,224,550 penalty as well as improve its process safety at the Benicia Refinery to settle alleged violations of the Clean Air Act, according to the Environmental Protection Agency Wednesday.
The company allegedly didn’t immediately report releases of hazardous substances, update certain process safety information, adequately analyze certain process hazards, and develop and implement certain written operating procedures, the agency said.
Valero has also agreed to modify pressure relief valves and update process hazard analyses to consider hazards of power loss at the facility, according to the agency.
