World Water Day: Contribution of Yogi Govt towards water conservation
Lucknow, March 22 (UNI) Ever since Yogi Adityanath took over the reins of Uttar Pradesh as the Chief Minister, the conservation of water, its better management and usage has been one among the top priorities of the government.
In its efforts to realize the above objective, the government not only ensured completion and operation of multiple decade-long pending projects aimed at conserving water, but also worked towards saving every drop of water through construction of farm ponds, multi-purpose ponds on the banks of rivers and various other water bodies.
Nearly 18 projects including the Saryu Canal Project, Arjun Sahayak Dam Project, and Bansagar Project that were pending for years and remained neglected under the previous state governments, have been completed and made operational by the Yogi-led government which will serve the purpose of saving water and facilitating the irrigation, benefiting more than 50 lakh farmers of the state, officials here on Tuesday claimed.
These efforts in the past five years have borne out positive results, with water conservation becoming a mass movement in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
In addition, the use of relatively efficient methods like sprinkler and drip for irrigation of maximum area in minimum water and time was encouraged by the government through provision of huge grants. In Bundelkhand, thousands of ponds were dug under the Khet-Talab scheme as a permanent solution to the problem of droughts.
In order to provide pure drinking water to all, work is underway on a plan of Rs 30,000 crore for Bundelkhand, Vindhya and other water-deficit areas. The Yogi government has also simultaneously worked towards rejuvenation of rivers and water bodies, construction of multipurpose ponds on banks of major rivers including the Ganga and promotion of practices like rainwater harvesting in every under construction building, officials said.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has always worked towards conservation of water and also has promoted the idea of water conservation to the public. Through protecting water, Yogi has also ensured the well-being of the farmers and the needy.
Uttar Pradesh had suffered drought conditions in the year 2014-15 and during that time, Yogi Adityanath as the Member of Parliament from Gorakhpur had advocated the idea of water harvesting in the Gorakhnath temple itself to encourage the public towards saving water.
