The De-suung National Service handed over a water project in Gyalpoizhing to Mongar dzongkhag administration yesterday.
The project worth Nu 37.8 million will benefit more than 480 households of Gyalpoizhing throm and nearby settlements. It is expected to benefit about 3,200 residents.
Residents of Gyalpoizhing are happy that they will no longer have to carry jerry cans or fetch water in their private cars from distant places in absence of uninterrupted or safe drinking water.
A resident, Sonam, said that they are happy that their perennial water issue would be addressed with the completion of the water project. “I am indebted and grateful to His Majesty the King for this precious gift.”
About 90 desuups, two armed force personnel and seven technical staff from Mongar dzongkhag took 10 months to complete the water project.
Executed under the partnership of the government and De-suung, the project constructed two water reservoirs with 1,030 litres and 75,000 litres and 11kms pipeline.
It also constructed 37 fire hydrants, 300 water meters and 24 sluice valves.
Meanwhile, the water projects are part of the De-suung National Service to build water infrastructure across the country to benefit the people.
