The Environmental Protection Agency will need to review and propose new hazardous air pollutant actions for the oil and gas sector, according to a proposed consent decree published on Monday.
The agreement settles a challenge by California Communities Against Toxics, Coalition for a Safe Environment, and the Sierra Club at the US District Court for the District of Columbia in April 2022.
The groups argued that the agency didn’t fulfill its Clean Air Act duties to review the National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants—NESHAP—for oil and natural gas production, transmission, and storage facilities.
