Jamshedpur, Jan 10: The drinking water problem of residents of Dhuma Basti and Dhuan Colony under East Ghorabandha panchayat in Jamshedpur block might come to an end soon.
On the instructions of East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Suraj Kumar, SDO drinking water and sanitation department (DWSD), Anuj Kumar Sinha and junior engineer Bhagirath Rawani made physical observations of the settlements and understood the problems of the local people closely.
The issue had been raised by BJP former district spokesperson Ankit Anand a few days back which had drawn the attention of East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Suraj Kumar.
During this, BJP leader Ankit Anand and a large number of local people were also present. PHED officials assured that the departmental exercise will start in the direction of providing clean drinking water to the people of the settlement.
Earlier, Ankit Anand had demanded that drinking water supply should be provided to the large population of these tribal settlements by expanding the Chhota Govindpur water supply scheme.
On this, Deputy Commissioner informed about the technical problems and said that since the said water supply scheme is prepared from the plan of the World Bank, it is not in the jurisdiction of the district administration to change or expand its nature.
The drinking water and sanitation department officials will now prepare a plan by conducting physical inspection. In the course of physical inspection, the departmental SDO and the Junior Engineer said that the water tower located in the theme park in the past can be repaired, but for this it is necessary that the forest administration should make a recommendation in this regard or issue a no-objection letter for the construction.
They also suggested another option in which an action plan should be prepared for the construction of two water towers according to the population in Dhuan colony and one in Dhuma colony.
Departmental officials said that for the scheme, it is necessary that the villagers should choose the land under the forest lease so that in future there is no dispute or objection to any department. Residents of the township also expressed their gratitude to BJP leader Ankit Anand, whose efforts have led to this departmental exercise.
It is to be known that the people of these settlements were deprived of clean drinking water for decades and in the last lockdown, two wells were constructed by people with mutual labour.
