TUMAKURU: A 45-year-old man who tried to poison drinking water in Government Boys’ Hostel at Guruvapura in Chikkanayakanahalli taluk of Tumakuru district was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 10,000.
Srinivas Ramaiah had gone to the hostel to pluck flowers when hostel cook Kariamma objected and told him to leave the premises. Insulted, Srinivas decided to teach Kariamma a lesson and hatched a plan so that she would lose her job.
On January 17, 2018, he gave a poison bottle to a boy and told him to put it in the hostel’s water tank filter. The boy, however, alerted the hostel authorities. Srinivas was caught and a complaint registered in Huliyar police station.
The V Additional District and Sessions Court judge found Srinivas guilty of trying to lace hostel drinking water with poison and convicted him. If he fails to pay the fine, he will have to serve one more year of rigorous imprisonment, judge B Shivakumar said.
