Ponnani: The state-run Kerala Irrigation Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (KIIDC) has fetched Rs 21.5 crore through sale of packaged drinking water under its brand Hilly Aqua in last five years.
Hilly Aqua is manufactured in two plants at Thodupuzha (Idukki) and Aruvikkara (Thiruvananthapuram).
Thodupuzha plant became operational in 2016 and has two production lines that can manufacture 12,100 litres of bottled water within an hour. The turnover of the plant in the last five years is Rs 21.38 crore.
Meanwhile, Aruvikkara plant became operational only on 2021. The turnover of the plant in the period 2021-22 is Rs 18.3 lakh.
The venture was started with the aim to provide bottled drinking water at reduced rates. One litre of bottled water was sold at Rs 15. 2-litre bottle is sold at Rs 25 while 500 ml bottle is priced at MRP 10.
Hilly Aqua, as part of expansion, has also launched cold water kiosks with the help of a startup Cofba Networks. The kiosks are near Thiruvananthapuram secretariat and inside, Sasthamangalam and Palayam. In these kiosks, Rs 2 is charged for one glass of water (200 ml) and 1 litre of water can be collected at Rs 5.
