These plants, which are sold in most supermarkets and garden centres, see their value increase after a naturally occurring variation. How can you spot it?
Many people don’t know some common houseplants can be extremely valuable as these variations are often mistaken for a disease.
Some shops even reduce the plant’s price after it happens.
Britons could make thousands by selling just a small part of the plant, a single leaf of the stem.
These plants can be found in shops such as Lidl and B&Q.

Pink Princess Philodendron
Very similar to the White Knight and White Princess, the Pink Princess Philodendronbut has pink variegation instead.
It can take a while to show, but if people spot the pink stains on the leaves, they could be selling it for thousands.
Some of these plants are currently selling on Etsy for £2,228 or £200 for a single leaf.
Monstera Obliqua
This may be one of the rarest houseplants but is still present in many British homes.
The Monstera Obliqua’s leaves could be easily mistaken for pest damage.
However, a single leaf of the most sought-after plant is selling on Etsy for £1,590 and on eBay for £1,250.
Over on Facebook Marketplace, a small plant goes for £1,000.
