No matter how extensive an epidemic of contagious disease may become, the citizens of this great English seaport rest secure in the fact that their drinking water is beyond the reach of contamination from sewage or other deleterious elements. The waters of Lake Vyrnwy in North Wales, 77 miles distant, are impounded in a lake, five miles in length and three-eighths of a mile in width, and conveyed to Liverpool by means of an aqueduct. A straining tower is provided at the lake where the water must pass through copper wire gauge having 14,400 meshes to the square inch, and with an aggregate area of 2,034 square feet. The cost of this undertaking for a generous supply of wholesome water, an ultimate supply of 40,000,000 gallons per day being possible, was $10,389.640.—Avierican Contractor,
