New Hampshire town forced to boil water for more than 2 weeks after E. coli reports

A New Hampshire town has been without drinkable tap water for two weeks.During a routine monthly test, elevated levels of E. coli were found in the water district system in the town of Rye. That system serves more than 4,000 residents in the town.An investigation is ongoing, but in the meantime, residents must boil their water and let it cool before drinking it or use bottled water to brush their teeth and prepare food.“It makes you realize how fortunate we are to have it without thinking about it,” Rye resident Patrick Phelan said. “It’s a bit of a wake-up call for everybody.”The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services said the two separate samples were taken 24 hours apart, and they must come back to clear the boil water notice in the town.Those results should be back in the next few days.
