My thanks to Lewiston Mayor Carl Sheline for looking out for Lewiston and Auburn taxpayers.
I agree with Mayor Sheline on a moratorium and a comprehensive study. I question the effects of development of 148 acres on and near Lake Auburn.
As a former Lewiston council president and member of the City Council for 10 years, I feel we will have serious issues if we lose our filtration waiver, along with possible major septic issues.
A new filtration plant could cost taxpayers $50-60 million. We studied this on the council on a yearly basis on the filtration waiver by maintaining the quality of Lake Auburn for our drinking supply. The taxpayers have spent millions of dollars over the years to not lose our filtration waiver, to keep and maintain the quality of drinking water we have now.
We have excellent water quality in the Twin Cities for a reason. The protection of our drinking water for the Twin Cities from past generations has given us what we have today. I wonder how many cities can say that.
Lewiston and Auburn citizens need to pay attention.
