Ganderbal : Establishment of three filtration reservoirs for provision of clean drinking water to three areas in Beehama, Repora and Arhama is still awaiting inauguration, affecting residents.
The three water reservoirs were constructed by the public health engineering (PHE) department at a total cost of more than Rs 10 crores to resolve shortage of water faced by Ganderbal villages.
But after failing to get clean water, residents are expressing resentment against the Jal Shakti Department for failing to make the reservoirs operational.
“In the absence of drinking water in our areas, people are forced to consume contaminated water from a nearby stream. It can lead to an outbreak of some disease in the villages,” locals told.
In Kangan sub-division, the water reservoir tenders process has been completed for the last 4 month but tenders are not open till date.
Executive Engineer Jal Shakti Department assured the reservoirs will be functional next month, he added—(KNO)
