JACKSON, KY — Historic flooding early last year left hundreds of homes damaged or destroyed in Breathitt County, Kentucky. Samaritan’s Purse quickly responded and their volunteers served hurting families in Jesus’ Name as they removed waterlogged walls and flooring, ruined belongings, and cleared homes of other debris. Their teams helped dozens of homeowners in eastern Kentucky and saw 14 people receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Now, their teams have moved into the long-term recovery phase of this response and they are working hard to get displaced families back into their homes. They anticipate replacing up to 10 manufactured homes and serving several additional families by providing major home repairs.

Don Hayes – Samaritan’s Purse:
We’re here in Jackson, Kentucky, where a year ago, a flood that came through this community destroyed so many of the houses and homes, and destroyed the livelihood of the people here in this town. But now we’re seeing, through Samaritan’s Purse and through the Breathitt County Rebuild, homes that are being demolished and put back together. We are so blessed to be able to have a dedication to give one of these homes back to the Campbell family, and hope restored to them and to their family.
Lloyd Campbell – Homeowner:
This house is probably about 100 to 150 feet from the lake. The lake had never got in these houses over here.
Ida Campbell – Homeowner:
The lake started rising, and we thought, “Well, you know, it’s going to raise some, but not get in the house,” because it never had. Well, it started coming in all of a sudden, so we decided we need to get out and go. So when we waded up there, it was up to my waist. It was very scary.
I had heard about Samaritan’s Purse, but I actually did not know what it involved until they showed up to help us rip out all the damage and helped us disinfect. We could not have done it ourselves. And then when they came back to rebuild and do all this stuff, I just– I mean, there’s no words, there is no words to put in– that we can put out there saying how thankful we are. I mean–
Lloyd Campbell:
It really humbles a person when something like this happens. Hopefully not too far down the road, you know, I’ll be able to put that orange shirt on, help a lot of people that need help.
Ida Campbell:
I would like to say thank you, Samaritan’s Purse. We love the house. It looks so good! And we can’t wait to get back in there and start living our lives again.
