Globally, more than 7m people die prematurely every year because of air pollution. Simply by breathing, nine out of 10 people on earth are being put at risk of asthma, cancer, heart disease, strokes and dementia, as well as early death. What these figures clearly demonstrate is that, at its core, air pollution is a public health issue.
