Two Yakima Police officers remain on administrative leave Sunday after an officer involved shooting on North 18th Avenue Saturday afternoon. The man who was injured was taken to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital where he was being treated on Saturday.
The man was wanted for domestic violence charges
Officers were searching for the man for “felony domestic violence charges” when they spotted him in the area of North 18th Ave and Jerome. The suspect, who police say had a firearm fled from officers while threatening to shoot and harm the officers. A news release from the Yakima Police Department says the man was found in a yard of a home in the area where the suspect refused to surrender. The suspect threatened officers and at least two Yakima Police Department officers discharged their firearms in the officer involved shooting. Department officials say the “suspect was medically treated at the scene and transported to the hospital shortly after the incident occurred.”
Yakima Police have placed two officers on administrative leave
Police say shortly after the shooting the “scene was secured by officers and turned over to the Yakima Valley Special Investigations Unit (YVSIU), pursuant to State law.”
While the suspect was shot no Yakima Police Department Officers were injured during the incident. City officials say the status of the suspect is unknown at this time. “The involved officers will be placed on paid administrative leave pending the YVSIU and administrative investigations, pursuant to standard protocol.”
