Community members were shocked recently to find muddy water coming out of their taps.
DA district councillor Themba Hlatshwayo says this was due to the accumulation of silt in reservoirs that weren’t being maintained properly and regularly.
He says the portfolio committee chairperson’s ordered the municipality to clean the two reservoirs and water lines supplying the area immediately.

“This particular ratepayer that I spoke to said that she had to buy water in order to survive to have drinking water and bathing water.
“Now she was double paying for water, paying the municipality and having to go and buy, which is unacceptable.
“She mentioned that some of the ratepayers were having boreholes to try and substitute water to have at least clean water.”
