This $59 air purifier doesn’t need a filter to fight bad smells

NEWS – Whether it’s your pet doing their morning business or the trash you forgot to take out, sometimes bad smells just happen. You could bust out the trusty air freshener, but that just covers up the problem, and it might even make your air quality worse. Instead, you could try an air purifier and stop the stink before it ever gets to you. The VentiFresh Eco Plus was funded over 388% on Indiegogo, and now you can get it for only $58.99 (reg. $84).

A NASA-inspired air purifier that’s out of this world

This super small air freshener uses technology inspired by NASA’s photocatalyst technology to get rid of bad scents and fight against germs. This air purifier’s UV catalyst core doesn’t just mask or capture odors. It actually helps them decompose through natural photosynthesis. That’s why you never have to refill or empty the VentiFresh. There’s no gross air filter to clean, just clean air to breathe.

The only attachment you have to think about is the optional gel pad you can use to install the VentiFresh Plus almost anywhere. Stick it to the wall next to your cat’s litter box to help fight the funk. That’s what one verified buyer did: “I thought this was going to be a throwaway gimmick, but I am totally amazed by how well it keeps the odors around the cat litter box fresh smelling.”

Stick it in your fridge to help keep your food fresh. Put one in the closet next to the shoe rack to kick foot funk to the curb. A day of golf doesn’t have to mean funky golf shoes anymore. You could even keep it next to your computer for a breath of fresh air at work.

All the VentiFresh needs is a power source you can plug the included Micro USB cable into. Plug into a wall or connect it to a portable power bank if you want clean air you can carry it around. That might be especially useful as allergy season kicks off this spring.

Save on an air purifier you can use almost anywhere

Take a deep breath of clean air. Get the VentiFresh ECO Plus on sale for just $58.99 (reg. $84). No coupon needed.

Reset air quality – Climate Control News

March 23, 2023 by Staff Reporter

RESET Air is a sensor based and performance-driven indoor air quality standard and certification programme that aims to make indoor environmental health measurable, deliverable, and accessible.

Indoor air quality (IAQ) is continuously changing and not obviously detected by human senses. IAQ changes throughout the life of a building on a daily and hourly basis through the HVAC system, occupant activity and a changing environment. And even though the impacts of indoor air quality on health, wellbeing and productivity are understood and can be significant, a deterioration of IAQ is often undetected.

RESET collects data via constant monitoring and cloud technology and requires the measured data to be displayed to the occupants. It therefore provides actionable data and helps protect the health of the occupants in real time.

RESET Air certification provides a tangible return on investment for offices and property owners. For offices, RESET Air not only enables healthier spaces, but also more productive spaces. For property owners, RESET Air empowers the communication of healthier, more productive buildings to prospective tenants.

IAQ sensors are not new but RESET sets a new standard. In very broad terms, a standard is an agreed way of doing something. It provides a set of rules and framework to ensure that minimum safety and/or performance requirements are met.

In the context of indoor air quality, it ensures that the collected data is relevant and robust and reliable. This allows building mangers to compare spaces within a building or whole buildings. Tenants can use the data to compare different offices and monitor trends over time.

The standard takes care of the IAQ monitors installation, calibration as well the reporting methodology such as how the data is collected and saved in the cloud. It then gets processed and made available via an API. RESET therefore provides an independent quality control of the effectiveness of the passive or mechanical HVAC system in terms of fresh air management and filtration. The collected data can be used by other systems, like a HVAC controller, but the control methodology itself is not part of the RESET.

ebm-papst has an experienced team of digital business innovators. These are technology professionals experienced in cloud, data analytics, hardware and App development; they think and live digitally. We help our customers along every step of the process to achieve RESET certification:

  •          The local ebm-papst team consists of RESET accredited professionals, expert advisors trained in RESET Standards to guide RESET Projects.
  •          The ebm-papst IAQ Monitor is RESET certified to meet the highest quality standards of reliable real time information.
  •          ebm-papst provides a scalable, plug and play multi-purpose Cloud IoT platform and is a RESET accredited data provider to assist with continuous monitoring.

Our highly skilled solution delivery team takes responsibility for on-site installation and integration until the project is up and running.

RTD Blue Bus Installs New Air Purification Systems To Reduce Virus Concentration

March 23, 2023 by Staff Reporter

NMRTD News:

The North Central RTD (“Blue Bus”) has installed new air purification systems across 56 buses to improve air quality and reduce exposure to harmful viruses, bacteria, mold, pollen and various types of dust.

The Blue Buses previously had air filtration systems but have since been updated to add an additional layer of safety for riders.

“Improving air quality is part of the District’s commitment to a cleaner, healthier environment for our customers and operators,” District Executive Director Anthony Mortillaro said.

In larger buses a Valeo Ultraviolet (UV-C) air filter was installed. Purified air will continuously flow in the passenger compartment while the vehicle is running. The Valeo system has a virus concentration limit comparable to that of a hospital operation room and ensures virus concentration is kept at a low level.

For smaller vehicles, Ford Transits and Dodge Caravans, a Proair HEPA-3 Filter was installed. This system cycles the air 8 to 9 times per hour and will protect both driver and passenger.

The North Central Regional Transit District provides fare-free bus service to an area that encompasses over 10,000 square miles of north central New Mexico including the counties of Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, Santa Fe and Taos, the Eight Northern Pueblos and the Jicarilla Apache Nation.

First Service Pros Announces Its Commitment to Environmentally Friendly Practices

March 22, 2023 by Staff Reporter

PRESS RELEASE

Published March 22, 2023

The leading HVAC maintenance service in San Diego has said that the company remains committed to helping save the environment by promoting environmentally friendly practices, one of which is improving the efficiency of HVAC systems.

San Diego, California – The leading HVAC maintenance service in San Diego has said that the company remains committed to helping save the environment by promoting environmentally friendly practices, one of which is improving the efficiency of HVAC systems.

First Service Pros has said that the company, through its HVAC service, helps home and business owners minimize their carbon footprint. It is worth mentioning that HVAC systems that function efficiently consume less electricity, and that can, in turn, also help owners save money with lower energy bills.

An inefficient HVAC system can lead to several problems, including increased energy bills, poor indoor air quality, inconsistent temperatures, increased wear and tear, and a reduced lifespan. On the other hand, an inefficient HVAC system may consume more energy, leading to higher energy bills, and may continue to struggle with maintaining a consistent temperature. These problems result in discomfort, hot and cold spots throughout the building.

Poor indoor air quality can lead to respiratory problems, among other health issues. Increased wear and tear can lead to more frequent repairs and potentially costly replacements. Regular maintenance and upgrades to more efficient systems can help avoid these problems, improve performance, and extend the lifespan of the HVAC system.

First Service Pros encourages customers to schedule regular maintenance and consider upgrading to more efficient systems to avoid these issues and ensure optimal comfort and indoor air quality. The company also helps home, and business owners find the right HVAC system for them.

Greater Manchester’s Clean Air Zone cameras are now being used for ‘detecting crime’

March 22, 2023 by Staff Reporter

Cameras installed for Greater Manchester’s now-discarded Clean Air Zone (CAZ) scheme are apparently being used for “detecting crime”.

A total of 407 automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras were installed across the region back in February 2022 ready for the start of the controversial £60 million scheme that never happened – but now, councillors in Bolton have revealed that the technology isn’t going to waste, and is actually being for an entirely different reason all together.

After Horwich councillor David Grant “raised concerns” about the cost of running the cameras at recent Bolton Council meeting, leader Martyn Cox revealed that Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has been closely controlling them and using them “to good effect in detecting crime”, according to BBC Manchester.

“Now that the Mayor of Greater Manchester has graciously confirmed that the area of Bolton will most like not be subject to any clean air zone can the leader confirm that he intends to demand that the presumably now defunct cameras be removed?,” Mr Grant asked at the meeting.

He continued: “Secondly, bearing in mind these cameras are live and drawing electricity from our street furniture, will he be requesting a payment for electricity estimated Greater Manchester wide at £375,000 a month?”

Council leader David Cox then explained to Mr Grant that information from the cameras released in line with data protection legislation has been used to support at least two murder investigations, one high risk missing person case, one county lines drug supply case, two separate fatal road traffic collisions, and an aggravated burglary.

“However, it is acknowledged that there are concerns around the use of number plate recognition cameras and allowing direct access to the cameras to organisations such as Greater Manchester Police when these are no longer required for a charging clean air zone,” Mr Cox continued.

“There is a commitment to undertake public consultation on the future use of cameras once we have a decision from central government on the investment led clean air plan.”

The Clean Air Zone was to initially hand motorists daily charges of up to £60 for some of the most polluting vehicles on Greater Manchester‘s roads.

But many will remember that the deadline for the scheme had been put on hold until while the plan was referred back to the government for “urgent review” in January 2022 after huge backlash and after Prime Minister Boris Johnson conceded that it was “completely unworkable” for the region.

The government agreed to delay the deadline for the scheme until 2026, but local leaders wanted to scrap all charges and help to fund vehicle upgrades instead.

Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) then set out evidence supporting an investment-led, and, crucially for residents and motorists, a non-charging Clean Air Plan back in June 2022 – which it said was “the best solution” to address the roadside nitrogen dioxide (NO2) problem.

Ministers are reportedly still yet to respond to this latest plan.

Environmental consultant recommends air quality tests on home affected by Carus fire

March 22, 2023 by Staff Reporter

LaSalle City Hall – Studstill Media Photo

LASALLE – The city of LaSalle is considering air quality testing with its third party environmentalist on homes affected by the Carus chemical fire. According to Deputy City Clerk Brent Bader, Brownfield Environmental Engineering has consulted with Indoor Sciences, an indoor air quality consulting firm, on conducting tests inside homes. Brownfield believes there are more types of tests that need to be conducted compared to previous tests done by Sierra Club Environmental Organization. Brownfield is recommending retesting eight homes tested by Sierra, test additional  homes that have not changed air filters since the fire and test home that have changed air filters for comparison. Bader says the cost of these additional tests would costs $3100 per home, plus an additional 5 to 6,000 to prepare a study for a total of $80,000. Soil testing results are pending and once received will be sent to state and county health departments and the U.S. and Illinois Environmental Protection Agencies. The city is pushing for reimbursement of existing and further testing conducted as well as city equipment damaged due to the fire.

Air pollution in 7 Odisha cities including Bhubaneswar alarming: Minister

March 22, 2023 by Staff Reporter

Bhubaneswar: Air pollution in seven cities and towns in Odisha including the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar is in an alarming state due to an increase in vehicular movement and other sources, Forest and Environment Minister Pradip Kumar Amat told the Assembly on Tuesday.

As per the air pollution level, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Angul, Rourkela, Talcher, Balasore and Kalinganagar have been identified as non-attainment cities.

As per the minister, these seven cities have been identified non-attainment cities as the level of air pollution is too high and at an alarming level. They have fallen short of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for over five years and do not meet the national primary or secondary ambient air quality standard.

“The Union Government has allocated more than Rs 54 crore to the State as per the provision in the Clean Air Action Plan to improve the quality of air in those cities,” said Amat.

As per sources, the current air quality in Bhubaneshwar is ‘Unhealthy For Sensitive Groups’ (135* US AQI). The present PM2.5 concentration in Bhubaneshwar is 49.2* µg/m³ which is 9.8 times the WHO annual air quality guideline value.
