How schools plan to navigate monkeypox

September 20, 2022 by Staff Reporter

With the first case of monkeypox hitting Boston Public Schools, health and school officials are following careful steps to keep the situation controlled and the community calm.

The district is working in partnership with Boston Public Health Commission, BPS said in a statement Monday, and in line with CDC guidance.

Since most of the virus has been spread among adults ages 20-49 through sexual or intimate contact, the risk of monkeypox outbreaks in primary schools is low, though higher education institutes — like other congregate living settings — are at higher risk.

To further reduce the risk of an outbreak, the CDC recommends following typical health practices like staying home when sick, providing adequate hand-washing supplies, practicing regular cleaning and disinfecting, providing ill children with private space and keeping personal protective equipment available.

If there are cases confirmed, guidelines state, schools should rigorously clean and disinfect impacted buildings, assist contact tracing to notify exposed individuals and distribute prevention information to the school community.

Exposed children and adolescents should be monitored for symptoms for 21 days. Students who develop symptoms at school should be given a mask, cover any rashes and be picked up by a caregiver to be taken for medical assessment.

More information can be found on the CDC’s FAQ page regarding monkeypox in schools.

Does Thony get Luca back?

September 19, 2022 by Staff Reporter

Major spoilers ahead of The Cleaning Lady season 2 premiere

The Cleaning Lady season 2 premiere, “Sins of the Father,” dropped us into the aftermath of Marco taking Luca from Thony. Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait long to find out whether or not her husband would be successful in taking their son back to the Philippines.

With Garrett’s help, Thony was able to prevent Marco from leaving the country. The two had chased him to the airport in the hopes of being able to put Luca back in Thony’s custody. Unfortunately, she couldn’t prevent Marco from running off with the child again.

All Thony was left with was one of Luca’s stuffed animals, proving that the two had been at the airport and she did actually hear her son calling for her. It seems Marco took Luca in an effort to force Thony to go back home with him. Yes, this does mean he used Luca as a bargaining chip which is unsavory, but it also serves as a contrasting parallel to when she took Luca from him.

While the circumstances were different considering Thony felt she couldn’t wait any longer for Marco’s visa to come in when Luca was getting sicker, the fact of the matter is, this couple haven’t been good to one another. After all, Thony snuck out under the cover of night and Marco only found out because he woke up.

Communication is not their strong point and this proved fatal in “Sins of the Father.”

Does Thony get Luca back in The Cleaning Lady season 2 premiere?

Yes, Thony did get Luca back before the premiere ended. However, it came at the cost of Marco’s life. He’d warned her to come alone to the motel where he was staying with Luca, but Fiona and her son, Chris, tagged along anyway.

When the situation between Thony and Marco got heated, it was Fiona and Chris who were there to defend her. But when Chris stepped in, his uncle grabbed him. Furious, the teen shoved him off. The momentum from the push sent Marco tumbling down the motel stairs. He died on impact when his head met the ground.

So, while Thony does have her son back, Fiona’s is about to experience a tremendous amount of guilt when all he wanted was to return his beloved cousin home safely.

Stay tuned to Hidden Remote for more The Cleaning Lady news and coverage! New episodes of season 2 air Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on Fox. Next day streaming is available on fox.com and Hulu.

If you can’t get your booster shot right away or at all, there are still many ways you can avoid contracting COVID-19 this fall or winter. Sometimes, cleaning and achieving the perfect order for your house can be difficult. Also, once you have your house perfectly clean, maintaining it can be a challenge as well. G’s Cleaning is here to help you to always have your spaces as clean and neat as possible.

G’s Cleaning is a luxury interior cleaning company. They clean from carpets to sofas, floors, and also provide housekeeping services. Their success has allowed them to work for some social media influencers like Lisa Jacobs, Lindsi Lane and Arielle Charnas. Additionally, they work hand in hand with recognized designers like Josh Goldfarb, Michelle Gerson, Cara Woodhouse and Kelly Rosen.

Their clientele are people who want excellent and reliable service. In this sense, they require a special service that will clean their pieces and leave it as if it was new. And that’s what G’s Cleaning is an expert on.

George Mazreku, founder and CEO of the company, got his idea from his mother, who worked for many years as a cleaning lady in the US. He knew how she made people happy after she was done cleaning a home. He knew that if he could implement that work and detail into his craft he could build on it and deliver the same satisfaction.

George’s story is one of hard work and dedication. “I was born in Kosovo. I came to the US in 1995 as a Refugee of War from Kosovo. We had nothing, literally. It was all left behind. I grew up in Forest Hills, Queens. I watched my mother and father work everyday to provide somewhat of a decent life. My mother was a housekeeper for 20 years and my father a Building Superintendent. I was mopping floors at 12 years old. Typical immigrant life lived. I can say that none of this was handed to me with a silver spoon” shares George about his past story and what inspired him to open G’s Cleaning.

After seeing his parents work so much and so hard for others, cleaning their houses, he realized people did not always show much respect to them because of what they do. George is here to change that with G’s Cleaning. He is showing that this job has more to it. It offers an extraordinary cleaning service that nobody else is used to.

In the future, the business is looking to start a Youtube channel to showcase the work they do, the homes they clean and the people they work for. Making what they do more visual goes along with recognizing more how valuable it is. Additionally, they are working on new products for their cleaning line.

Your Complete Guide To Spring Cleaning

September 19, 2022 by Staff Reporter

Monday, 12 September 2022, 4:45 pm
Article: NexDo

When the days start getting brighter, and the weather
turns warmer, it lifts your mood and really puts a spring in
your step (pun intended!).

It’s also the time of year
when you’ll feel the urge to roll up your sleeves, open up
your windows to let some fresh air in and start cleaning up
your home.

Now, that’s not to say that you haven’t
kept your home clean through the winter, but closed doors
and windows tend to trap a lot of dust and dirt
inside.

The Reason Why Spring Cleaning Is So
Important

Aside from the significance the term
‘spring cleaning’ holds in our society, it’s also the time
when we can take stock of all the annual maintenance work
that our home needs – and get it done!

This also
creates an excellent opportunity to get rid of all the dirt
and dust piled up in the corners of your home.

When
Is The Perfect Time To Start Spring Cleaning?

In the
past, spring cleaning used to be a long, tiring day of
cleaning.

However, with changing times and busier
schedules, it’s best to split these tasks up over a couple
of days to ensure you get the best out of your spring
cleaning.

As a rule of thumb, when the weather gets
warmer, it’s the perfect time to open up the windows, let
the sun in and get to work.

Okay, So Where Do I
Start?

In the same way, you wouldn’t undertake a big
project at work without a plan, nor should you tackle your
spring cleaning. Before you begin, write down a list of
tasks that need to be completed, and then decide which ones
to tackle first.

So, here’s a quick start guide to
getting your house cleaned!

  1. Make a
    plan:
First things first, map your home into zones.
Start with the rooms that you use the most. For instance,
since you most likely use your kitchen often, get started
    here first.
  2. Stop procrastinating:
Don’t put things off. Make yourself accountable to someone
so that you have to get things done.
  3. Start
with the most challenging and largest tasks first:

Once you get the most daunting tasks out of your way, it
will motivate you to finish the smaller and more manageable
tasks so that you can complete your spring cleaning as
efficiently as possible! What’s more, the tasks that are the
most difficult are also the ones that make the most
noticeable visual changes first – think, get rid of all the
    clutter on your tabletops.
  4. Don’t compare
    yourself to anyone else:
    Just because your
neighbour cleaned their home up last week, or your colleague
did it all in one day, it doesn’t mean that you should allow
it to bring you down. Keep in mind that all that is
important is that you are ultimately satisfied with your
    home cleaning.

To ensure that you put your time
and effort to good use and your home looks brand new, here
are a few of our top tips!

  • Declutter,
    declutter, declutter!

As you’re
clearing up around your home, take a minute to ascertain
which items you use daily, which ones you rarely use, and
which you never really use.

Then go about reorganising
and getting rid of the things that you no longer
need.

Contrary to popular belief,
natural, homemade cleaning solutions (like vinegar, baking
soda, lime juice etc.) are just as effective as store-bought
chemical ones. When using these natural products, you are
able to disinfect surfaces and even add a great smell to
those areas too!

Of course, if you have very
hard-to-remove stains, you must use a cleaner that suits
your needs.

Begin dusting and cleaning from
the top floor (or from the tops of cupboards) and work your
way down. That way, all the dirt and grime falls to the
bottom, where you clean up at the very
end.

  • Make sure you have everything on
    hand.

Before you start cleaning, ensure
you have all the cleaning solutions and tools you need for
each area within easy reach. That way, you won’t have to
waste your energy walking around, and you won’t risk
tracking dirt and grime to various other rooms of your
home.

Also, if you use a cordless vacuum, ensure that
you have it charged before you begin using it – so that it
doesn’t die on you mid-clean!

Empty out dust bags
outside your home so that all the gunk accumulated in your
vacuum’s dust bag stays out of your home for
good!

The Best Way To Maintain Your Spring
Cleaning

The worst thing that could happen is that
you spend all this time cleaning up, only to have your
efforts go in vain. Before you know it, your neat and tidy
home has returned to looking like it did before – almost as
if you never cleaned at all!

This usually happens
because your regular life takes hold, and you’re likely to
forget what you should do to maintain your home.

To
avoid this from happening, here’s what you can
do:

  1. When you are reorganising each room, remember
what you use it for and how you and your family use it. For
instance, if you usually use your coffee table to keep
important bills (and not coffee table books and decor), then
    you should do so.
  2. You should also keep in mind the
storage requirements of each room and plan it out
    accordingly.
  3. Finally, you should try to wipe down
surfaces, vacuum and mop floors and also make sure you air
out your house regularly. In doing so, you’re sure to keep
    your home in tip-top condition!

And, if all else
fails, you can always call in a professional cleaning
service to keep up with the regular maintenance for your
home. All you need to do is book your service and remember
to let them know about your particular needs and if there
will be any pets or young children at home during the
cleaning.

Couple says serving customers center of dry cleaning business

September 19, 2022 by Staff Reporter

For more than two decades Michael and Sherri Hayes have been cleaning the Flathead Valley’s laundry.

As the owners of Imperial Dry Cleaners and Laundromat, they’ve provided service for customers looking to wash T-shirts at the laundromat but they’ve also accommodated special requests like when they cleaned an $8,000 suit separately from other garments. To them, it’s all about serving their customers.

“We treat people nice — it’s really what it’s all about,” Michael says. “And we have the best customers. We think of everyone as a VIP.”

When the couple purchased the Kalispell business 22 years ago, neither had any idea how to run it. At one point, they also owned three convenience stores, but now own just Michael’s on U.S. 93 and Meridian Road.

“We bought the dry cleaners because we had been customers for many years and thought we should buy it,” he said simply.

Using their background in the hospitality industry, they both applied hard work in learning and running their businesses. They say customers at the laundry mat are often there weekly and some come to the convenience store more than once per day so they’ve learned the importance of treating customers well.

The couple met when both were working at the former Outlaw Inn. Sherri grew up in Kalispell and Michael is originally from Butte where he also managed a hotel.

“We knew about the hospitality industry and that transferred well,” he said. “That’s the reason we have made it.”

Primarily running the dry cleaning business, Sherri has been hands-on from the beginning. When the employee who handled the dry cleaning portion of the business quit she learned on the spot how to run the dry cleaning machine. They’ve worked, with the help of their staff and family members, in every piece of the business, even repairing washers and dryers themselves when needed.

“I didn’t know anything about it,” she said of the beginning. “It was tough from the first day – I was pretty much reliant on the other staff and wondered what we did we get ourselves into.”

TODAY THE business often sees 1,000 pieces move through it a day for cleaning and hundreds of pounds of laundry for washing and folding — all done by hand. The business also includes locations in Evergreen and Bigfork.

They both credit the staff, which now totals 25, including several of whom have been with them for more than 10 years, for their hard work. They say training employees and watching them grow to move on to other jobs has been a rewarding experience.

It was also those employees who were their focus when they made the switch to an environmentally friendly dry cleaning process using organic and biodegradable solvents, along with working to conserve water, electricity and natural gas. Not to mention their six children and six grandchildren, as Micheal notes, “Our kids all drink the same water.”

Throughout the years though there have been some long days and tears shed in the process, Sherri says beyond running the business there is satisfaction that comes in the day-to-day task of cleaning garments.

“It’s a challenge,” she said of trying to get a stain out. “There’s a lot of different chemicals that you can use, but you can’t mix them. So you have to figure out what’s going to work and that feels good when you get it out.”

“We’ve mastered our craft,” Michael notes with satisfaction.

Sometimes they are assisting people after a tragedy — cleaning multiple items that have been damaged in a fire or flood.

“That can be heart-breaking,” Michael said. “You’re working hard to clean a stuffed animal because a mom wants to get it back to their little one.”

THOUGH IT hasn’t always been easy, it’s been the socialization of the business that Sherri has enjoyed including making connections with customers. They say it’s not uncommon for regular customers to bring in treats for the staff.

“We’ve had some of the same customers since day one,” she said. “One woman who is 102 and lives on Foy’s Lake comes in regularly to wash her laundry because she’s concerned about using the washer in her home because it might affect the lake.”

Providing laundry service for blankets and sleeping bags that don’t fit in home machines is a common part of their service. They say about a third of their customers have a washer and dryer, but are waiting on repairs for their home machine.

Some of the more interesting items that come through the door for cleaning have been Civil War uniforms, a Smokey Bear costume and several Santa Claus suits.

They steam press a lot of wedding dresses and work to clean the mud out of the gowns after the ceremony – it’s one of the most challenging garments to clean, they say, noting that the dresses aren’t necessarily made in a way that’s designed to be passed down, but holds sentimental value to the bride.

“We got one dress from a wedding in Glacier Park that was covered in mud all over the lace and pearls,” Micheal recalled. “We did the best we could to clean it.”

As the Flathead Valley has become a place for destination weddings that portion of their business has increased.

“We get hit really hard in the summers with all the weddings,” Sherri said.

The couple recently sold the dry cleaning and laundromat business, and while they’re still helping with the transition to the new owners they’ve already begun reflecting on what the business has meant.

“Kalispel has been good to us,” Michael says.
